FOODS THAT FIGHT BAD BREATH

Nobody likes bad breath, and it's a powerful way to make a bad first impression. But the good news is that there are relatively simple ways to take care of it. Most of the time, bad breath comes from the gases produced by bacteria accumulating in the mouth, on the gums, teeth and tongue. Many of these gases contain sulfur, which gives them the funky smell.

However, foods you eat can affect your breath too. If you eat foods with strong odors, such as garlic or onions, their smells tend to linger. As your digestive system breaks down food, it enters your bloodstream, an pungent oils in garlic and onions eventually enter the lungs and cause bad breath. Brushing your teeth, eating a mint or using mouthwash covers the smell, but it will not go away completely until the food has left your body.

Drink More Water

Saliva, as it turns out, is your body's built-in remedy for eliminating these bacteria, and dehydration is one of the most common causes of bad breath. Many people drink far too little water throughout the day to ward off the bacteria in the mouth that are most responsible for causing bad breathTiny microbes in the mouth actually feed on food particles, then release odor-causing byproducts.
Chronic dry dry mouth conditions play a part in the development of bad breath. Dry mouth is caused by the decomposition of dead cells in your mouth and on your tongue. This decomposition results in an unpleasant door.

Green & Black Tea

Green tea has been shown to neutralize some of the compounds in garlic and onions that give breath a bad smell. Green tea also contains catechins that kills bacteria leading to plaque while preventing gum disease, cavities and inhibiting the growth of bacteria leading to more bad breath. In a 2010 study published in the Journal of Dental Research, it was found that tea, especially black tea, fights halitosis, or bad breath, because polyphenols suppress the genes of bacteria that control the production of smelly compounds in the mouth.

Probiotics

Poor gut health is another common cause of bad breath. If your digestive tract is overloaded with toxins, or if antibiotic use and poor dietary habits have left your digestive system in shambles, bad breath could merely be a side effect of another underlying problem.
Equally, if you suffer from constipation or a sluggish digestive system, you  are a prime candidate  for developing bad breath. The reason for this is that these conditions create an excess of gas in your body, and much of that gas exits through your mouth.  Supplementing with probiotic flora or eating more probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, fermented sauerkraut and kombucha tea just might be the remedy. Taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with water prior to eating meals may help your digestive processes run more smoothly.
A study published in the journal Current Opinion in Gastroenterology back in 2011 found that probiotic supplements actually help replace odor-causing oral microbes with beneficial varieties, effectively nipping bad breath in the bud. Other studies have identified specific probiotic strains such as Lactobacillus salivarius that directly target harmful bacterial strains in the mouth, and reduce or eliminate the volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) responsible for causing bad breath.

Fresh Herbs

Chewing on herbs like parsley, cilantro, and mint helps decrease odors caused by a buildup of bacteria. Chewing fresh parsley and mint leaves or drinking mint tea can remove some of the smell from the garlic and onions as well. Dried herbs do not do as good of  a job as fresh herbs do, however, dried herbs are helpful in mouth rinses.

Supplement With Zinc

Another common cause of halitosis is a deficiency in the mineral zinc, which helps maintain a clean, bacteria-free mouth. Some mouthwash products actually contain zinc as an active ingredient because the mineral is a known antimicrobial, and aids in the neutralization and elimination of harmful germs. But supplementing with oral zinc and eating more zinc-rich foods like pumpkin and gourd seeds, cacao, and organ meats, for instance, are an even better approach, as it can help address the problem systemically. Zinc deficiency is associated with poor healing, immunity and inflammation.

Coconut Oil Pulling To Reduce Bad Breath

Halitosis is in many cases (not all) caused by the smell of chemicals and gases produced by bacteria in the mouth, so if you get rid of some of the bacteria, you reduce bad breath. In a study of 20 adolescents, oil pulling therapy significantly reduced all markers for bad breath and was just as effective as chlorhexidine mouthwash.

How to Oil Pull

Oil pulling is incredibly simple, safe and very effective.
  1. Put about a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth.
  2. Swish the oil around your mouth for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Spit out the oil, then brush your teeth.

12 THINGS YOUR TONGUE IS TELLING YOU THAT YOU CAN’T IGNORE

The tongue is a very versatile part of the body, as it helps with communication, helps maintain the health of the mouth and helps us keep ourselves nourished. But what you may not know is that the tongue also holds information about your physical and emotional health. Simple knowledge of the tongue can give you some great clues on how your diet, lifestyle and environment are affecting you internally.

The tongue is a muscle covered with a moist and pink tissue called the mucosa. Tiny bumps on the surface of the tongue are called papillae, and they hold thousands of taste buds that are responsible for detecting sweet, salty, bitter and sour tastes. There is also a fifth taste, called umami, which can detect glutamate-type of tastes, such as those found in green tea.
The tongue has three main parts :
  • Apex – tip of the tongue.
  • Body – remainder of the visible tongue extending all the way to the back of the throat.
  • Root – attaches the tongue to the base of the mouth.
The tongue is a unique because it is composed of all three of the embryonic layers of the body: endoderm, ectoderm and mesoderm, and represents a large part of the various tissues of the body.

Reading the Tongue's Clues

Our tongues can provide meaningful and fascinating information about our state of health. The bulk of knowledge about the diagnostic aspects of the tongue comes from ancient Chinese medicine, which clinically observed the tongue for over a thousand years. Chinese medicine uses three main factors when “reading” the tongue, looking aat the coating, color and shape.

A Healthy Tongue

The tongue has a coating that represents the state of digestive function. The ideal tongue coating consists of a thin, white film on its surface, and indicates that the stomach and digestive system is healthy and functioning well during the process of digesting food. This coating is actually made up of bacteria, and while most people think they can scrape off, the fact is that scraping the coating does very little, as the bacteria grows back immediately.
In Chinese medicine, the white coating represents the residue leftover from indigestion, so a thin, white coating is considered normal and healthy.

Thick Coating & Colors

If there is a thick coating on the tongue, then there is an imbalance in the body that has impacted the physiology. This imbalance could be from functional changes resulting from disease or injury or it can be due to other factors such as lifestyle choices or aging.

thicker, white coat means there is a predominance of weakness of physiological function in the body. So a heavy white coat would mean that some system in the body is not able to perform its physiological role in maintaining health, or may represent a viral infection.

thick, yellow coating on the tongue indicates a predominance of heat in the body, which could correspond to inflammation or a bacterial infection.

geographic tongue is one where the coating is peeled in areas and easily removed. This type of coating indicates a person who has pushed their body to the brink of exhaustion. This type of tongue is also associated with allergic disorders and autoimmune diseases, but these are severe manifestations. If you have a geographic tongue, it is a sign to slow down.

Tongue Colors

In Chinese medicine, the tongue is an extension of the heart, and the color of the tongue is said to represent the health of the blood. Since the blood is what nourishes and maintains the body, the tongue color also shows overall health. Tongue color takes a long time to change, so it shows the state of one’s health over a longer period of time. The ideal color of a healthy tongue should be pale-red, which indicates good circulation of blood in the body.

Pale White Tongue

A tongue that is white or extremely pale can be a sign of a problem, and indicates a weakness in the digestive system. This can be accompanied by loose stools, extremity coldness, heavy fatigue and abdominal distention/bloating.
An extremely pale, dry tongue can also indicate a blood deficiency, which can affect women more than men, and is frequently marked by anxiety, dizziness, impaired memory, insomnia, chapped lips and eventually anemia.

Other Possible Issues

  • Leukoplakia: An abnormal growth of the mucous membrane cells on the tongue surface. It is mainly associated with chronic irritation of the tongue by tobacco chewing and areca nut/betel leaf chewing. Tongue discoloration due to leukoplakia appears as white to gray patches on the top of the tongue and may also affect the inner cheek and gums.
  • Hairy Leukoplakia: A similar condition believed to be caused by Epstein-Barr viral infection which is more likely to arise in a person with a depressed immune system, like in HIV aids
  • Oral Thrush: A fungal infection of the mouth, usually visible on the tongue, extending down to the esophagus, and caused by candidiasis/yeast infection. This is more likely to occur in a person with a depressed immune system like someone with HIV/AIDS and poorly controlled long-term diabetes mellitus.
  • Oral Lichen Planus: A condition that occurs for unknown reasons and causes "whitish" lines on the inside of the mouth, including the tongue, along with open red sores. It may affect the entire inside of the mouth and extend to the esophagus. Oral lichen planus is believed to be linked to certain infections, allergies, vaccines and certain medications.
  • Other possible causes of white discoloration of the tongue includes syphilis or can occur with a fever and dehydration. Paleness of tongue that may sometimes be mistaken for whitening can occur with conditions such as pernicious anemia (vitamin B12 deficiency) and iron-deficiency anemia.

Bright Red Tongue

A bright red tongue almost always indicates a pathological condition, like indicating an infection. At the start of the infection, only the tip will be red, but as the condition progresses, the redness will advance to eventually cover the whole tongue. Red dots can also appear on the tongue. These indicate heat or inflammation in the blood. In children this can represent an immune response to infection. In adults, this can indicate what is called heart fire, which can result in insomnia and anxiety.

A Tongue With A Red Tip

The tip of the tongue is also known as the heart area. Given this, a red tongue tip without any signs of illness can indicate emotional turmoil.
A red, shiny tongue with no coating usually indicates a loss of the body’s ability to regulate and offset thermogenic hormones in the body. This is often seen in women who start menopause and men who use a medication called Lupron.

A Tongue With Red Sides

If only the sides are red, this can also be aggravated by over-consumption of spicy or greasy foods and alcohol. A tongue with red sides can also be seen in people with irritable bowel syndrome. This can also be called liver fire and be the result of long-standing anger or resentment.
Other Possible Issues:
  • Glossitis: An inflammation of the tongue that may come from any number of issues. The process of inflammation increases blood flow to the tongue and leads to redness, pain and swelling. The more common causes of glossitis are acute mechanical or chemical injury or infections.
  • Vitamin Deficiencies: Vitamin B12, niacin or folic acid may cause a strawberry red tongue.
  • Scarlet Fever: A condition that may sometimes develop in a person with strep throat. It starts with a red rash that covers most of the body along with a strawberry red tongue. Scarlet fever arises as a reaction to the toxin from bacteria that causes the infection.
  • Toxic Shock Syndrome: (TSS) is an uncommon condition where the toxins from certain types of bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus, trigger an immune reaction, and can be potentially life threatening.
  • Kawasaki Syndrome: A condition where there is inflammation of the medium and large artery walls. The exact cause is unknown but is believed to be a genetic susceptibility and possibly associated with autoimmune issues. It tends to affect boys under the age of 5 years most, but can occur in any age group and also affect females.

Purple/Blue Tongue

A purple/red-purple tongue may arise with certain diseases, and indicates long-standing inflammation. A purple tongue is uncommon compared to other discoloration, and is more commonly seen with nutritional deficiencies, in particular with vitamin B2 (riboflavin) deficiency. A tongue with a purple hue can also be seen in women who have very difficult menstrual cycles or in people who are experiencing chronic pain. This can also precede the development of a blue tongue explained below, and should be carefully monitored in acute cases to take note of whether more distinct color sets in.

Blue Tongue

A bluish tongue is always considered to a be a serious sign that warrants medical attention. It is an important sign of cyanosis, which is a condition caused by an insufficient oxygen supply to the tissue. The condition may be caused by blood disorders, diseased blood vessels, heart dysfunction or respiratory (lung & airway) problems.
More Causes Include:
  • Acute respiratory distress
  • Airway obstruction
  • Asthmatic attacks
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Congenital heart disease
  • Pneumonia
  • Poisoning
  • Suffocation

Yellow Tongue

Yellowish discoloration of the tongue is uncommon. In most cases a yellowish discoloration precedes the development of black, hairy tongue (discussed below). Another cause which rarely leads to yellowness of the tongue is jaundice although there is pronounced yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes.

Black Tongue

Black discoloration of the tongue is rarely due to any disease, and can develop at birth or sometimes during the course of life, and tends to be permanent. However, sometimes there is a black discoloration of the tongue which may arise when the papillae become elongated giving the tongue a hairy feel. This condition is known as black, hairy tongue, and occurs when more food debris collects than normal and causing an increase in the bacteria within the mouth. It typicaly develops as a yellow discoloration, which progresses to a brown and then black.
More Causes Include:
  • Regular use of certain medication including antibiotics and bismuth-containing drugs used for indigestion.
  • Certain types of mouthwash.
  • Tobacco use.
  • Poor dental hygiene.
  • Mouth breathing.

58 FOODS TO START EATING NOW IF YOU HAVE DIABETES

Every time you push a shopping cart in the grocery store, you’re making a decision that goes far beyond what you’re going to have for dinner. You’re actually choosing between being healthy or unhealthy.

According to the American Diabetes Association, Diabetes is an epidemic in America, as 25.8 million Americans have diabetes, and 79 million have prediabetes, which is a stage where blood sugar levels are high but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. This is definitely a crisis.
Unfortunately, this epidemic shows no signs of slowing, and it is predicted that more than half of Americans will be diabetic or prediabetic by 2020. Diabetes is so scary because it brings a host of complications along with it including heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, nerve damage, poor circulation, hearing loss, erectile dysfunction, periodontal disease, and diabetic retinopathy.
Studies also show that diabetes increases the risk of Alzheimer's, and a recent study from the University of Washington in Seattle found that high blood sugar levels that fall far short of high enough to be diagnosed as being diabetes increased the risk for dementia.

Diabetes is classified as either Type 1 or Type 2. With Type 1, the body fails to produce the insulin necessary to convert sugar and starches to energy, while Type 2 diabetics don't properly use the insulin the body produces.

Foods That Fight Diabetes

A healthy diet is a proven key in the fight against diabetes, and studies have shown that some foods are particularly effective at lowering blood sugar.

Cinnamon

This common spice contains a substance called MHCP which has been shown to renew the capacity of fat cells to respond to insulin and remove glucose. One, three, or six grams of cinnamon daily (as little as a quarter of a teaspoon) can lower glucose levels by up to 29%.

Blueberries & Other Berries

Diabetics can reap special benefits from berries. Unlike some fruits like pineapple and raisins, berries are low GI fruits, according to the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. They also offer vision-protecting vitamin C, fiber, and are antioxidant powerhouses. Other good-for-you berries include strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Researchers at the University of Illinois found that blueberry and blackberry wines may be effective in helping people with diabetes control their blood sugar.

Pomegranates

These have many health benefits running the gamut from arthritis prevention to protection against prostate cancer. Israeli researchers say it also has important benefits for diabetics, showing that drinking six ounces of the juice daily for three months lowered the risk for atherosclerosis, which causes 80% of deaths in diabetics. Surprisingly, the researchers found the sugars in the juice did not seem to affect blood sugar levels.

Apples

A recent study from Harvard University found that eating two servings of whole fruits a week, particularly apples, blueberries, and grapes decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes by 23%. The foods like apples, onions, tomatoes, berries, and green vegetables decrease the risk of diabetes by 20%.
A Finnish study found that men who ate foods high in quercetin, such as apples, reduced their risk of diabetes by 20 percent. Other sources of quercetin include onions, tomatoes, berries, and green leafy vegetables.

Oranges & Other Citrus

According to Harvard Medical School, the average orange has a GI score of only 40. Other citrus fruits, such as the grapefruit, have even lower GI scores: a 120-gram grapefruit GI score is a rock-bottom 25. The pulp in oranges and grapefruit provide a great source of fiber, so eat the whole fruit rather than only drinking the juice for the maximum benefit.

Non-Starchy Vegetables

This vegetable variety doesn't cause a spike in blood sugar, they go a long way in satisfying your appetite and boosting your intake of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals. These vegetables are low in calories and carbs, making them some of the few foods that people with diabetes can enjoy almost with abandon.
In fact, the American Diabetes Association identifies most non-starchy vegetables as low glycemic index (GI) foods with a ranking of 55 or less. What’s more, research conducted by Newcastle University found that a low-calorie diet consisting of non-starchy vegetables successfully reversed type 2 diabetes in patients. Some good non-starchy vegetables include:
  • Alfalfa sprouts
  • Artichoke
  • Artichoke hearts
  • Asparagus
  • Beans: Italian, green, yellow, wax
  • Bean sprouts
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Cabbage/Chinese cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Celery
  • Chicory
  • Cucumber
  • Eggplant
  • Green onions or scallions
  • Greens: beet, collard, dandelion, kale, mustard, turnip
  • Jicama
  • Kohlrabi
  • Leeks
  • Lettuce: endive, escarole, leaf, Romaine, iceberg
  • Mushrooms
  • Okra
  • Onions
  • Parsley
  • Peppers, all varieties
  • Radishes
  • Rhubarb, fresh
  • Rutabaga
  • Sauerkraut
  • Snow peas or pea pods
  • Spinach
  • Summer squash
  • Swiss chard
  • Tomato/Tomato paste
  • Turnips
  • Water chestnuts
  • Watercress
  • Zucchini

Avocado

Rich, creamy, and packed with beneficial monounsaturated fat, they slow digestion and help keep blood sugar from spiking after a meal. A diet high in good fats can help reverse insulin resistance, which translates to steadier blood sugar long-term.

Barley

Choosing this grain instead of white rice can reduce the rise in blood sugar after a meal by almost 70% and keep your blood sugar lower and steady for hours. The soluble fiber and other compounds in barley dramatically slow the digestion and absorption of the carbohydrate. Add barley to soups, serve it as a side dish, or make it the basis for a stir-fry or casserole.

Beans

When planning your weekly menu, try to eat beans at least twice a week. The soluble fiber in all types of beans puts a lid on high blood sugar. Because they are also rich in protein, they can stand in for meat in main dishes.

Nuts & Seeds

Because of their high fiber and protein content, nuts are “slow burning” foods that are friendly to blood sugar. And even though they contain a lot of fat, it’s the healthy kind.

Like nuts, seeds of all types like pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, chia are filled with good fats, protein, and fiber that work together to keep blood sugar low. Hold the croutons on your salad and substitute pumpkin or sunflower seeds instead.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is loaded with soluble fiber which  forms a paste when mixed with water. Just as it sticks to your bowl, it also forms a gummy barrier between the digestive enzymes in your stomach and the starch molecules in your meal. You can also add ground oatmeal to muffin, pancake, or waffle batters.

Garlic

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Center says garlic can increase the level of insulin in the blood. Both animal and human studies conducted in Japan, India, and Saudi Arabia show that garlic regulates and lowers blood sugar. The Indian study found the allicin in garlic combines with the B vitamin thiamine and stimulates the pancreas to produce insulin. Experts recommend a 2 to 3 fresh cloves a day.

Pumpkin

Researchers from East China Normal University found chemicals in pumpkins that successfully help regenerate damaged pancreatic cells in rats. These compounds boosted pancreatic cells, which produce insulin, to a degree that can eventually eliminate the need for insulin injections, or the amount of insulin needed will be drastically reduced. The pumpkin compound was tested on rats with Type 1 diabetes, but the researchers believe it may also help counter Type 2.

Lean Forms of Protein

The right amount of protein helps manage diabetes in a few ways. First, it will help take the edge off hunger and can speed up weight loss, which lowers blood sugar levels. Plus, pairing protein-rich foods with carbohydrates slows the rise in blood sugar. Topping pasta with grilled chicken will cause blood sugar levels to take longer to peak. This is because protein stimulates insulin release (in those who still produce insulin). Protein also causes your stomach to empty more slowly. This delays the starch from reaching your gut, where it's turned into glucose before entering your bloodstream. This delayed gastric emptying helps prevent sharp spikes in blood sugar. Some top forms of lean proteins are:
  • Cheese
  • Chicken or Turkey
  • Cottage cheese
  • Eggs
  • Fish/Shellfish
  • Lean Beef
  • Peanut Butter
  • Pork/Ham

Wild Salmon & Other Fish

The GI index only ranks foods containing carbohydrates, so you won’t find a GI number associated with fish. Wild salmon is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which lower risk of heart disease if you eat it regularly. It’s also full of vitamin D and selenium for healthy hair, skin, nails, and bones. If you don’t prefer salmon, similarly nutrient-dense fish include herring, sardines, and mackerel.

Almonds

A study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition found that a diet rich in almonds improved insulin sensitivity as well as lowered levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol. Other studies have found that 1.5 to 2 ounces of almonds daily for women and 2 to 3 ounces daily for men lowered risks of both diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is often touted as a remedy for many things, but researchers at Arizona State University East found that two tablespoons of ACV before meals cut sugar levels in prediabetics by 50%, and by 25% in diabetics. In addition, a study published in the journal Diabetes Care found that drinking apple cider vinegar after eating a high-carb breakfast lowered blood sugar levels by 34% in patients with prediabetes, and by 19% in those who had Type 2 diabetes.

Green Tea

This super healthy drink is simple, inexpensive and excellent for preventing diabetes, as it regulates the blood sugar levels. Expert suggest drinking 2-3 cups of green tea every day.

Dark Chocolate

Flavonoids in dark chocolate help prevent against insulin insensitivity, a condition that stops body to use insulin effectively in type 2 diabetes. Experts say that consumption of 100 grams of dark chocolate per day improves the body’s metabolism of glucose.

Sweet Potatoes

If you choose a baked sweet potato instead of a baked white potato, your blood sugar will rise about 30% less. Sweet potatoes are packed with nutrients and disease-fighting fiber, with almost 40% of the soluble type that lowers cholesterol and slows digestion. They’re also extra rich in carotenoids, that play a role in helping the body respond to insulin. Plus, they’re full of the natural plant compound chlorogenic acid, which may help reduce insulin resistance.

Bloating
Bloating is a very uncomfortable and embarrassing condition. Almost one in 10 Americans suffer from abdominal bloating regularly.

What Causes Gas And Bloating?
Bloating is caused when the excess gas is trapped in the small intestine. This makes the stomach visible swollen.

Build up of excess gas can be caused due to many factors which include constipation, water retention, trapped air, overeating, indigestion, smoking and others. Bloating is generally accompanied by other problems like diarrhea, lower back pain, belching, gas and stomach cramps.

How To Get Rid Of Bloating?
The best way to get relief from bloating is to pass out the excess gas or a bowel movement. Few home remedies like ginger, caraway seeds, peppermint, chamomile and other ingredients mentioned below will help you with the same.

Home Remedies for Bloating
Choose any one remedy and try it as mentioned to get relief from the bloating.

1. Ginger
Ginger is a carminative which means it relieves the pressure of bloating by helping gas pass through the digestive system. It contains gingerols and shogaols, act as pain relievers which soothe and relax the intestinal muscles. It restricts the bad bacteria production in the colon.

Method 1:
§  Peel and slice a piece of fresh ginger root.
§  In a cup, mix the slices with lemon juice and honey.
§  Pour some hot water into it. Cover and let steep for 15 minutes.

§  Alternatively, you can also use black caraway seeds for bloating.

3. Fennel
Fennel seeds are very effective for digestive problems like bloating. It contains carminative, diuretic, pain-reducing and anti-microbial properties. Fennel seeds help relieve bloating by relaxing muscle spasms in the digestive tract. Fennel contains volatile oils which prevent gas and act as an anti-spasmodic, helping trapped gas pass easily through the system.

Method:
§  Crush a teaspoon of fennel seeds.
§  Add them to a cup of hot water and let steep 10 minutes.
§  Strain and consume the tea for 2 – 3 times in a day.
§  You can get relief within 5 – 10 minutes.

Note: Pregnant women should consult their physician before trying out the fennel seeds method. Though fennel seeds are considered safe, the tea made by following the above process can cause pre-term labour if consumed during pregnancy.

4. Peppermint
The methanol oil present in peppermint has antispasmodic effect on the muscles of digestive tract which aids in passage of air and food. It also helps absorb iron from food. Chew some fresh peppermint leaves to get relief from bloating. Or else you can follow the process below.
§  Place a peppermint tea bag in a cup of hot water.
§  Cover and let it steep for10 – 15 minutes.
§  Take out the tea bag and squeeze it to get out every bit of the healing solution.
§  Drink the tea slowly and relax.
§  Repeat the process 1 – 2 times in a day.
§  Alternatively, you can add handful of fresh mint leaves instead of a tea bag.
§  Or add 2 drops of peppermint oil into a cup of cool water and drink it.

5. Chamomile Tea
Chamomile relaxes the digestive system, and it contains anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties which relieve gas and bloating as well as heartburn, menstrual cramps, and joint pain.
§  Add chamomile tea bag into a cup of hot water.
§  Cover and let it steep for 10 – 15 minutes.
§  Squeeze out the bag to get out all the goodness from it.
§  Add honey and lemon as per your taste.

§  Repeat the process 2 – 3 times in a day between the meals.
§  Alternatively, you can use chamomile flowers instead of chamomile tea bag.
Note: Don’t add milk while preparing the tea as it can trigger gas.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a perfect cleanser, eliminator and the best food for treating indigestion. It can give almost instant relief from gas and indigestion.
§  To a glass of warm water (filtered), add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (unfiltered that still contains mother in it).
§  Drink this mixture slowly.
§  Repeat the process 2 – 3 times in a day on an empty stomach.
Note:
If you cannot withstand the taste of apple cider vinegar, you can take acv tablets or capsules.
Apple cider vinegar is completely safe during pregnancy and breast feeding.

7. Anise Seeds
The anti-spasmodic properties of anise seeds are helpful in soothing the digestive tract. The carminative properties of it help to push out the gas build up and reduce bloating. Anise tea is the best method to get all the benefits of this herb.

Different Ways Of Taking Anise Seeds To Treat Bloating
§  Chew a teaspoon of anise seeds thoroughly.
§  Add anise seeds in your daily cooking.
§  Combine anise seeds and celery seeds in 1:2 ratios. Add some sugar for taste. Take 1/2 teaspoon of this mixture regularly.
§  Add 1 teaspoon of anise seeds to one cup of boiling water. Cover and let it steep for 15 minutes. Strain and drink the anise tea before or after meals. It provides quick relief from gas.
Note:
§  As per The U.S food & Drug Administration, infants should not be given anise tea as it can lead to vomiting, seizures, rapid eye movement and restlessness.
§  Pregnant women should avoid taking anise.
§  Some people are allergic to anise seeds, so it is better to consult a doctor before taking them in any form.

8. Warm Lemon Water
Lemon is rich in vitamin B and C, riboflavin, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and proteins which help in digestion. The acidic nature of lemon stimulates the production of hydrochloric acid, which helps the body break down food more efficiently. The mixture detoxifies the body as the liver enzymes work effectively due to lemon.
§  Add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to a cup of hot water.
§  Stir it well and drink this on empty stomach in the morning.
§  Drink regularly to get rid of bloating.

9. Pumpkin
Spicy foods and foods high in fiber and fat take longer time to digest. When the food doesn’t get break down in small intestine, it enters the large intestine where the natural bacteria in the large intestine break them down. During this process, gas is produced leading to bloating. The vitamin A in pumpkin prevents all that by promoting proper digestion.
§  Take a cup of pumpkin and eat it regularly by baking or streaming or broiling or find a pumpkin recipe you like and eat it regularly.

10. Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is oxidized with hot steam or air to make it porous which states that the air and water can pass through it. The spaces in it can trap the excess gas formed by bacteria in the intestines.
§  You can take activated charcoal in tablet, capsule or powder form. It should be taken before meals to prevent gas and bloating problems.
§  For exact dosage as per your medical history, seek medical advice from doctor.
Note:
§  Pregnant women and people taking contraceptives or other medicines should avoid consumption of activated charcoal.
§  This process should not be followed for a longer period of time.

11. Dandelion
Dandelion tea is a natural diuretic and laxative which helps to regulate the digestive system and relieve gas and bloating.
§  To a cup of boiling water, add 1 teaspoon of dried dandelion leaves.
§  Cover and let it steep for 3 – 5 minutes.
