THE BEST FOODS FOR FIGHTING & PREVENTING CANCER

Most people today do not realize that one of the easiest and most effective ways to promote good health and to help protect against cancer is by watching what you eat. The American Cancer society estimates that one third of all American cancer deaths are diet-related.
The foods on this list, are also supported by the Cancer Cure Foundation, and have the ability to stave off cancer. Some can even help inhibit cancer cell growth or reduce tumor size if eaten regularly. This list is not complete, as there are other anti-cancer foods, but I am featuring the "All-Stars".

    Vegetables

    Broccoli, Cabbage & Cauliflower

All of these vegetables have a chemical component called indole-3 carbinol that can fight breast cancer by converting a cancer-promoting estrogen into a more protective variety. Broccoli, especially sprouts, also have the phytochemical sulforaphane, a product of glucoraphanin, which helps in preventing some types of cancer, like colon and rectal cancer. Sulforaphane induces the production of certain enzymes that can deactivate free radicals and carcinogens. However, be aware that it appears that the more bitter/younger heads of broccoli the more glucoraphanin it has, and they have as much as 20 times more than mature heads of broccoli.

    Carrots

Most of us know that Carrots contain a lot of beta-carotene and help our eye sight, but many of us may not know that they help reduce a wide range of   cancers  lung, mouth, throat, stomach, intestine, bladder,   prostate and breast.

    Kale

This Super-Food has indoles, or nitrogen compounds which help stop the conversion of certain lesions to cancerous cells in estrogen-sensitive tissues. In addition, isothiocyanatesphytochemicals found in kale, suppress tumor growth and block cancer-causing substances from reaching their targets.

    Mushrooms

Shiitake, Maitake, Reishi, Agaricus Blazei Murill, and Coriolus Versicolor help the body fight cancer and build the immune system. These mushrooms contain polysaccharides, (especially Lentinan) that are powerful compounds that help build immunity. They have a protein called lectin, which attacks cancerous cells and prevents them from multiplying. They also contain Thioproline which has been shown to increase life span and improve neurological functions. These mushrooms can stimulate the production of interferon which play an important role in the defense against viral infections.

    Seaweed

Sea vegetables contain beta-carotene, protein, vitamin B12, fiber, and chlorophyll, as well as chlorophylones, important fatty acids that help in the fight against breast cancer. Many sea vegetables also have high concentrations of the minerals potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and iodine. (One needs iodine for optimal thyroid function and is an essential element that enables the thyroid gland, the "master gland of metabolism".

    Sweet Potatoes

These veggies contain many anticancer properties, including beta-carotene, which protects the DNA in the cell nucleus from cancer-causing chemicals outside the nuclear membrane. They help prevent breast, gallbladder, kidney, leukemia, liver & lung cancers.

    Fruits

    Avocados

Avocados are rich in glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that attacks free radicals in the body and prevents Oral and breast cancers. They also supply more potassium than bananas and are a strong source of beta-carotene. Scientists believe that avocados may also be useful in treating viral hepatitis (a cause of liver cancer), as well as other sources of liver damage. Research has found that certain nutrients are absorbed better when eaten with avocado. In one study, when participants ate a salad containing avocados, they absorbed five times the amount of carotenoids than those who didn't include avocados.
    Chili Peppers & Jalapenos

These contain a chemical called Capsaicin, which neutralizes certain cancer-causing substances called nitrosamines and help prevent cancers such as stomach & prostate cancer. Capsaicin not only causes the tongue to burn, it also drives prostate cancer cells to kill themselves!

    Figs

These are an antioxidant powerhouse, and studies found that eating just two medium dried figs caused a significant increase in antioxidant activity in the body.

    Grapefruits
Much like oranges and other citrus fruits, grapefruits contain monoterpenes which increase the levels of liver enzymes involved in detoxifying carcinogens.  Monoterpenes help prevent cancer by sweeping carcinogens out of the body. Also, some studies show that grapefruit may inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer cells in vitro.

    Grapes

Red grapes contain bioflavonoids, powerful antioxidants that work as cancer preventives. Grapes are also a rich source of resveratrol, which inhibits the enzymes that can stimulate cancer-cell growth and suppress immune response. They also contain ellagic acid, a compound that blocks enzymes that are necessary for cancer cells, which appears to help slow the growth of tumors.

    Lemons & Oranges

These fruits contain Iimonene which stimulates cancer-killing immune cells (lymphocytes) that also break down cancer-causing substances.

    Papayas

These have vitamin C that works as an antioxidant and may also reduce absorption of cancer-causing nitrosamines from the soil or processed foods. Papaya contains folacin (also known as folic acid), which has been shown to minimize cervical dysplasia and certain cancers.

    Raspberries

These berries contain many vitamins, minerals, plant compounds and antioxidants known as anthocyanins that protect against cancer.  Research reported shows black raspberries may also thwart colon cancer, and because they are rich in antioxidants, thought to have even more cancer-preventing properties than blueberries and strawberries.

    Tomatoes
Tomatoes contain lycopene, an antioxidant like vitamin C, that attacks free radicals, that are trigger cancer. It appears that the hotter the weather, the more lycopene tomatoes produce. Watermelons, carrots, and red peppers also contain these substances, but in lesser quantities, and it is concentrated by cooking the tomatoes. Scientists have shown that lycopene can kill mouth cancer cells. An increased intake of lycopene has already been linked to a reduced risk of breast, prostate, pancreas and colorectal cancer.

    Grains, Seeds & Nuts

    Whole Grains

Whole grains contain a variety of anti-cancer compounds including antioxidants, fiber, and phytoestrogens.  These can help decrease the risk of developing most types of cancer.

    Flax

This seed contains lignans, which have an antioxidant effect and block or suppress cancerous changes. Flax is also high in omega-3 fatty acids, which protect against colon cancer and heart disease.

    Nuts

These proteins contain the antioxidants quercetin and kaempferol that may suppress the growth of cancers. The Brazil Nut contains 80 micrograms of selenium, which is important for those with prostate cancer.

    Herbs & Spices

    Garlic
This spice has immune-enhancing compounds, that increase the activity of immune cells that fight cancer and indirectly help break down cancer causing substances. These substances also help block carcinogens from entering cells and slow tumor development.  People who consume raw or cooked garlic regularly, face about half the risk of stomach cancer, and two-thirds the risk of colorectal cancer. It is believed that garlic helps prevent stomach cancer because it has anti-bacterial effects against a bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, found in the stomach and known to promote cancer there.

    T

    Rosemary

This spice helps increase the activity of detoxification enzymes. An extract of rosemary, called carnosol, has inhibited the development of both breast and skin tumors.

    Beverages

    Non-GMO Soy Products

Soy milk and tofu contain several types of phytoestrogens that help prevent both breast and prostate cancer by blocking and suppressing cancerous changes. There are a number of isoflavones in soy products, but research has shown that genistein is the most potent inhibitor of the growth and spread of cancerous cells.

    Green & Black Tea

These liquids contain certain antioxidants known as polyphenols (catechins) which appear to prevent cancer cells from dividing. Green tea is best, followed by our more common black tea (herbal teas do not show this benefit). Dry green tea leaves, which are about 40% polyphenols by weight, may also reduce the risk of cancer of the stomach, lung, colon, rectum, liver and pancreas.

How to Use An Apple to Get Rid of Your Headaches Instantly

Researchers with The Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation discovered that  the smell of green apples had some positive effect on reducing the severity of migraines.  They found that the smell of green apples can reduce the brain-thumping symptoms of a migraine. Inhalation can be the most direct delivery method of these important nurturing components, since the chemical messengers in the nasal cavity have direct access to the brain.

The researchers  reported that patients who liked the smell of green apples experienced a significant reduction in the severity of their headaches, while patients who disliked the smell experienced no significant effects.

If you’ve cut yourself, one of the best remedies for cuts is believe it or not: Cayenne Pepper!   Cayenne can be applied to open wounds or even taken orally to stop bleeding. Nosebleeds, deep cuts, even arterial gushing will stop within seconds. Cayenne pepper allows cuts to clot quickly so you can keep all your blood inside your body, where it belongs.

You can also stop internal wounds from bleeding by drinking a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of cayenne stirred into it.
Here’s a quote from the late Herbalist Dr. John Christopher’s book, School of Natural Healing, “…take a teaspoonful of cayenne in a glass of extra-warm water, drink it down, and by the count of ten, the bleeding will stop. Instead of all the pressure being centralized, it is equalized, and the clotting becomes more rapid. Whether the bleeding is internal or external, a teaspoon of cayenne taken orally in a glass of hot water will stop the bleeding quickly.”

Other Health Benefits of Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne is rich in capsaicin. The pepper also contains vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin E, potassium, manganese, and flavonoids (which give the chili its antioxidant properties).
    Pain and Inflammation
Cayenne is great at relieving pain from inflammation. It works by depleting a neurotransmitter called Substance P, thus desensitizing nerves that signal pain. It is good on sore muscles, backaches, stiff neck and other pains.

    Beneficial for Blood Clots

Cayenne pepper also helps reduce atherosclerosis, encourages fibrinolytic activity and prevents factors that lead to the formation of blood clots, all of which can help reduce the chances of a heart attack or stroke.

    Helps Cure Ulcers:

Cayenne pepper also helps in treating ulcers by peristaltic movement of intestine. Cayenne pepper is also great for the stomach and the intestinal tract. It stimulates the peristaltic motion of the intestines and aids in assimilation and elimination.

9 SURPRISING AND SIMPLE WAYS TO ELIMINATE YOUR SUGAR CRAVING FOREVER

If you’ve found that munching sugary snacks just makes you crave more sugary snacks, you’re not alone. Eating lots of simple carbohydrates without the backup of proteins or fats can quickly satisfy hunger and give your body a short-term energy boost, but they almost as quickly leave you famished again and craving more.

    Why We Crave Sugar

There are many reasons why we go for sweet things. Sweets just taste good, and that preference gets reinforced by rewarding ourselves with sweet treats, which can make you crave it even more.
Sweet is the first taste humans prefer from birth. Sugar is a carbohydrate, and carbs stimulate the release of the feel-good brain chemical serotonin. The taste of sugar releases endorphins that calm and relax us, offering a natural high.
The problem comes not when we indulge in a sweet treat now and then, but when we over-consume them, which is easy to do when sugar is added to many processed foods like breads, yogurt, juices, and sauces. Americans are notorious for over-consuming sugar, averaging about 22 teaspoons of added sugars per day. According to the American Heart Association, we should limit added sugars to about 6 teaspoons per day for women and 9 for men.

What Happens When We Consume Sugar

When you consume starches & refined sugar, these foods enter the bloodstream quickly, which causes a sugar spike. The body then produces insulin to push sugar from the bloodstream into the cells. Over time, excessive levels of insulin can make your muscle cells lose sensitivity to the hormone, which leads to type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Fat cells are different, and always remain sensitive to insulin. So these insulin spikes lock the fat cells so you can't use them for energy.
To break this cycle and get your body to work optimally again, you shouldn't go on an extreme diet. The first step is just to reduce the blood sugar spikes that produce sharp increases of insulin. The substance in our diet that's most responsible for these surges is starches like potatoes, rice, flour, corn, or other items like white pasta, white bread, doughnuts, cookies, candy and cakes.
While we could cut out these foods entirely, wouldn't it be great if there were a way to solve the problem without completely eliminating these carbs? It turns out there is.

You can blunt the blood sugar-raising effects by taking advantage of natural substances in foods that slow carbohydrate digestion and their entry into the bloodstream. No matter what kind of sugar blocker you use, your waistline and health will win in the end.

Have a Fatty Snack 10 to 30 Minutes Before Meals

This amazing trick allows you to remain fuller longer because at the outlet of your stomach is a muscular ring called the pyloric valve. This valve regulates the speed food leaves the stomach and enters your small intestine. This valve is all that stands between the carbs in your stomach and a surge of glucose in your bloodstream. However, you can send your pyloric valve a message to slow down by eating fat as it triggers a reflex that constricts the valve and slows digestion. As little as a teaspoon of fat that can be easily provided by a handful of nuts or a piece of cheese will do the trick, it you eat it before your meal.

Start Your Meal With a Salad

This tip helps the body soak up starch and sugar. This happens because soluble fiber from the pulp of plant based foods like beans, carrots, apples, and oranges, swells like a sponge in your intestines and traps starch and sugar. Soluble means "dissolvable", so when soluble fiber eventually dissolves, it releases glucose. However, that takes time which makes the glucose it absorbs to seep into the bloodstream slowly, then body needs less insulin to handle it. A good way to ensure that you get enough soluble fiber is to have a salad before the meal, rather than after, when you eat starches.

Eat Plenty of Protein With Your Meals

If you do this you won't secrete as much insulin. You want to blunt insulin spikes, so you need to start secreting insulin sooner. Even though protein contains no glucose, it triggers a "first-phase insulin response" that occurs so fast, it keeps your blood sugar from rising as high later. This reduces the total amount of insulin you need to handle a meal, so be sure to have meatballs with your whole grain or veggie spaghetti.

    Try Some Cooked Veggies

Both fruits and vegetables contain soluble fiber, but you digest veggies more slowly.  As a rule, vegetables make better sugar blockers, because they have more fiber and less sugar than fruits. Just make sure you don't cook your vegetables to much. Boiling vegetables until they're limp and soggy saturates the soluble fiber, filling it with water so it can't absorb the sugar and starch you need it to. Crisp vegetables are chunkier when they reach your stomach, and larger food particles take longer to digest, so you'll feel full longer.

    Pour On The Vinegar

This slows the breakdown of starch into sugar. The high acetic acid content in vinegar deactivates amylase, the enzyme that turns starch into sugar. (It doesn't matter what kind of vinegar you use.) Because it acts on starch only, it has no effect on the absorption of refined sugar. In other words, it will help if you eat bread, but not candy. But there's one more benefit: Vinegar also increases the body's sensitivity to insulin. You should consume vinegar at the start of your meal. Put it in salad dressing or sprinkle a couple of tablespoons on meat or vegetables. Vinegar brings out the flavor of food, as salt does.

Sip a Glass Of Wine With Dinner

If you follow this tip, your liver won't produce as much glucose. Alcohol has unique sugar-blocking properties, and your liver normally converts some of the fat and protein in your blood to glucose, which adds to the glucose from the carbs you eat. But alcohol consumed WITH a meal temporarily halts your liver's glucose production.
A serving of any alcohol like beer, red or white wine, or a shot of hard liquor will reduce the blood sugar load of a typical serving of starch by approximately 25%. Now this doesn't mean you should have several drinks, as not only does alcohol contain calories, but it also delays the sensation of fullness, so you can overeat if your not cautious. Be especially careful about avoiding cocktails that are made with sweetened mixers because they are a huge source of sugar.

    Save Sweets For Dessert

If you eat sweets on an empty stomach, there's nothing to impede the sugar content from racing into your bloodstream because there is no fat, no soluble fiber, no protein, no vinegar to slow it down. But if you confine sweets to the end of the meal, you have all of the built-in protection. If you want to keep blood sugar on an even keel, avoid between-meal sweets. When you do indulge, don't eat more than you can hold in the cup of your hand. But a few bites of candy after a meal will have little effect on your blood sugar and insulin.

    Eat Regularly

Waiting too long between meals can set you up to choose sugary, fatty foods that cut your hunger. Instead, eating every three to five hours can help keep blood sugar stable and help avoid irrational eating.

    Move Your Body

There are other ways of blunting sugar spikes, and exercise is one of the best. Your muscle cells are the biggest users of glucose in your body and the target of most of the insulin you make. When you exercise, your muscles need to replenish their energy stores, so each cell that you work out begins making glucose "transporters."
These sit on the surface of the cell and allow glucose to enter. In the meantime, while cells are still making the transporters, they also open up special channels that allow glucose in. So to reduce sugar spikes after your meal, go for a walk after eating.
